Anyone who knows me, knows I am an outdoor enthusiast, hiker/backpacker, barefoot-in-the-grass-type woman. So it’s no surprise that I am a sucker for a rustic camp wedding! My favorite moment from capturing Jacquie and Kelly’s special day at Surprise Lake Camp in Cold Spring, New York? They were literally climbing out of the lake from a paddleboat ride when I arrived about two hours before the ceremony. This is not a couple who got caught up with wedding day traditions and jitters. They set out to have a fun weekend with friends and family, full of zip lining and swimming, and they did it! And they did it while still having gorgeous DIY details and the most delicious vegan doughnuts! Thankfully the rain held off all day, despite dire predictions for afternoon thunderstorms, until well after the indoor reception was underway! Here are some of my favorite highlights from their special day…
As much as I love Jacquie’s band of black diamonds, the history behind Kelly’s leaf band is beautiful. It was her dad’s wedding band, inscribed on the inside with “I love you” and her parent’s anniversary, exactly one month after Kelly and Jacquie’s. Such a beautiful memento to carry through another marriage!
Such a sweet first look…
This is one happy flower girl :)
My first ceremony “in the round,” and I have to say I really liked it! There’s something to be said about being encircled by your loved ones. And that backdrop! So pretty…
I myself am an avid journal-writer and note-keeper, I always have a notebook with me. As a special thank you, I always give my brides a small journal with the cover inscription, “Live the story you want to tell…” My brides are always telling me how great they are to keep track of wedding plans and are small enough to go anywhere with you. This is the first time I’ve ever seen my notebooks used for vows and I was so touched!
Jacquie and Kelly carried their purple and green theme through to the reception with glass bottles they adorned with ribbon and lace themselves!
Love these pens!!! I’m tempted to make some to go with my journals :)
Both Jacquie and Kelly are vegan, in fact Jacquie’s dress was not made from silk or any animal-byproduct! So it made sense that their reception would feature vegan fare. Coming from a food truck was a fun bonus that fit their camp theme and the decorations they added are fabulous!
And of course photo-booth fun…
Yes, even these delicious doughnuts are vegan! They twisted my arm and I took one for the ride back to the city. Hands down, tastiest doughnut ever…
Jacquie and Kelly, I wish you a lifetime of paddleboats, dances and laughter! Thank you so much for allowing me to capture your beautiful day! xoxo
