Finding Montauk { Travels with my Canon / NY Travel Photography }

Ever since watching Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, visiting Montauk during the winter season has been on my Must-See List. The wide, empty beaches and the quiet houses sitting perched on the dunes, resting like seagulls looking to the horizon appealed to every part of my being. I’ve always been attracted to the off-beat, to the road less traveled, to visiting places most people only see through crowds of other people when there isn’t another being around. It’s as if you can see into the soul of the place this way.

When I found myself on the eastern tip of Long Island last week, I made sure to build extra time into my schedule to make my way out to my first-ever visit to Montauk Point, to take it all in during the off-season. I am always a bit humbled when standing in front of the ocean…

I can only imagine what this place looks like in the summertime, cars and bikes pulled off from the road, families sitting around picnic tables enjoying fried seafood and the warm ocean air. That’s one of the things about visiting a place off-season, I always want to go back and blend in when the crowds come so I can have a the full experience :) Winter in Montauk, Long Island
