Remember when I was talking about photography opening up my small circle of the world and introducing me to wonderful people? No? Hmmm…Ok, read more about it here :-)
If you do remember, (after all it was just Monday!), then I’d like to elaborate a bit more. You see, I met Mr. Shayfer James through a friend. This friend just happens to own Kanibal Home, a lifestyle store in Jersey City that I just can not praise enough. Of course, I wouldn’t have met this friend without the help of another friend and so you can start to see how my circles all begin to intertwine! In any case, Ms. Kristen Scalia, said shop owner and woman extraordinaire, asked if I’d be interested in doing a fashion look book for Kanibal Home and I literally jumped up and down clapping in excitement. And so, on a day that started warm and ended with a chill (including out first snow flurries), the look book was born. Here are a few behind-the-scenes shots…
Tracy Raffelson lent her makeup skills for our two beautiful models, Rita (above) and Kelly.
I’ve never met a makeup artist who didn’t have perfect makeup herself. The beautiful Ms. Raffelson, below. I can not thank her enough for her work!
Part of my excitement in working with Kristen on this project revolved around her fabulous concept inspired by Erin Morgenstern’s novel, The Night Circus. Morgenstern writes of a circus that appears without warning and is only open from dusk ’til dawn. We drew upon this mysterious and magical concept for our storyboard. Starting with our two ladies heading for an evening out and incorporating a dreamy ride on a motorcycle, by the end it’s hard to tell what is real and what is fantasy…
Van Vorst Park served as part of our backdrop for the ladies stroll to happy hour. I love the fabulous hair accessories Kristen picked out from Republic of Pigtails. And Rita and Kelly look stunning…
I mean, even in this outtake, all eyes are on our gorgeous girls!
I love love love this next shot. Perhaps because we were all freezing our buns off in a cemetery and were minutes from being kicked out by the maintenance crew…
Please be sure to check out the actual look book, published over on issuu.com. They made it so easy to get our pdf online and looking every bit the catalog it is!
Thank you Kristen, for including me on this wonderful project! Your creativity and ingenuity never cease to amaze and inspire me! Can’t wait to see what you’re working on next! xoxo
